So, I played many stragety RPGs and had my fair of good, bad, and even ugly. I feel like I played all the good ones out there. So I've made this topic to find out if thats true.

Please Note-I play on the folowing systems-PSX,GBA,PSP, and Nintendo DS

The GoodBig Smile-

Final Fantasy Tactics (PSX)

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (NDS 2 and GBA 1)

Tactics Ogre(SNES)

Tactics Ogre-Knight of the Lodis(GBA)

Vandal Hearts(PSX)

Shining Force(series)(Genesis)

The BadAngry-

Hoshigami(PSX)-lacked class system, enemies unvaried, lack of development overall.

Yddraga Union(GBA)-cheesy, very easy, lack of freedom.

Vandal Hearts 2(PSX)-Everything good about the first game is gone.

Fire Emblem-(GBA)- easy, lack of weapon variety, no customization. Story is childish and laughable. bored of it.

So thats it, hope you get an of what I'm looking for. Thank in advance Goozex community.

I recall the advance wars games being pretty fun

Pizza guys are getting worse and worse looking. I guess all the good ones went into porn.

Advance Wars is an example of a strategy game, not an RPG. I'm not really into the whole futuristic combat scene, I'd rather duel with swords than guns any day.

A small correction, then some additions.  Tactics Ogre is for PSX, not SNES.  Ogre Battle was on SNES though.  Tactics Ogre's the superior game, but I don't know which you're referring to.

With ps2 not in the mix, that cuts out a lot of SRPGs.  Disgaea, one of the big ones from ps2 was ported to PSP.

Warsong was released in america for the Genesis too.  It's the first of the Langrisser series, and although it has a poor translation, it is still very worth checking out.  To this day, some 16 years after first playing it, this is still one of my favorite games.  I wish there were more than just 2 of the games in this series available in english.

I'm refering to Tactics Ogre. It was orginally released on SNES in japan. The reason I filed under SNES is because of the graphics are obviously super nintendo. I might try out Warsong, but theres nothing good for PSP?

Jeanne d'Arc is pretty good on PSP.

Not my favorite but definitely worth a play through.

Disgaea is awesome!

FFT used to be my favorite, but Disgaea took that spot.

From what I've heard about Disgaea is its grindy and doesn't enough playable characters. Jeannae d'Arc sound awesome, though graphics are strange. As for FFT, there isn't game in existence that can fill its shoes, just unbelievably great sprites, skills, character, customization, everything.

Disgaea is so good.  Not for everyone, but I dug it a lot.  I still like La Pucelle better though.

That's why I like Tactics Ogre so much.  Obviously very similar to FFT, from the graphics, to battles and everything, but to have even more depth, and class choices, and it looked better too!  Tactics Ogre took me much longer to beat than FFT, even with doing all the extras in FFT, and then I had to play it again to see things from the evil side.  Just my opinion I guess, but I felt Tactics Ogre was superior in every way.

Also, Disgaea can get grindy if you are one of those people that needs to max out everything.  You can have an adequate level character and complete the game with just great  equipment, as opposed to godly, with minimal grinding.

While Disgaea can get grindy, it definitely is up to you. You can beat it with minimal grinding. But I found it immense fun to try to max my characters and equipment in multiple playthroughs.

While there are not a huge number of special or predefined characters, there are enough to make for a very fun story. You can create a large number of your own characters as well. There are just so many different ways to play the game.

PSX - Brigandine   Strategy RPG that plays out a bit like Risk.  You won't get it on Goozex though.  Last I checked, it was selling for over $70 on Amazon...

I found FFT to be over-rated ... at least in the PSP implementation.  Jeanne d'Arc and Disgaea were each better in most every way.  I like Jeanne slightly better, but it is also easier - but that isn't a major beef with me.

I also like Yggdra Union for the PSP, but since you didn't like it much on the GBA you won't much like it on PSP either.

Thats the thing, you shouldn't be able to max out anything without cheating.I know lets you max out if you pick up enough cards, but will take ya a least +30 extra hrs.

Looks like I'm going with Warsong and Jeanna D' Arc. Dude, in Disgaea you get 3 special characters that are hardly better than generic troops. Lets compare to FFT, you get about 8+ special characters, all of them come abilites that can easily crush generic units.
