I have an issue with GameStop ripping me off all the time. They also give you low trade credits on games that you should get alot out of. I was just wandering if any one else had the same problem. Please answer the poll and if you wish to explain why or how GameStop ripped you off.Or argue your case and defend GameStop.

Do you think GameStop ripps you off?

My EB games (here in Canada) just takes the the games you trade in and puts them right on the shelf.  I traded in about 7 games one time and all they did was look at them and stick them on the shelf.  Sure they looked for scratches and none of them were scratched THAT badly...  but they had a some had a few marks on them that cold have made them unplayable  even though I know they worked because I tested them first.  Anyways my point is that the store just puts the games on the shelf right away.  I stayed and shopped for about ten mins and I saw the person put on the price tags and stick my games on the shelf.

EB Games / Gamestop is a joke. They buy your games and then up the price they bought it from you at least three times, if not more. Like, I traded in a game for $7 and they put a $19.99 price tag on it. Sometimes it's even more. I've traded in a game for $5 and they put a $24.99 price tag on it. I find it's only somewhat good when you buy a $60 game, and then trade it in within two weeks, because they usually give $35. But, unless you're a hardcore gamer, it's not at all worth it and it's better to trade $60 games on here. If you only intend to have a game for two weeks, you might as well rent it for $12 ($6 a week). AND, for me, if I ever buy a $60 game, I always make sure it's a game I want to keep for a while/ever, and always make sure to look up reviews on it (Fallout 3 or Grand Theft Auto 4 for example).

As for defective merchandise, EB Games is hit or miss. They don't have the time (and are too lazy) to check every traded in game well. They may look for scratches, but I've played games with no scratches and they still freeze and what not. Only two times have I bought a used game that wasn't working properly. They have a decent return policy, so each time I took the game in, they exchanged the defective copy for another copy for me no questions asked.

Hahaha. All I seriously heard was "Shsh wshwsh shshswhsh your eyes to bleed. Shshswsh wshshsh boobies." Fool talks ridiculously fast.

Gamestop isn't the place for gamers, it's a place for parents to get their kids games. You know, since most parents aren't really in the know of video games etc, so they jip em.

Gamestop sux. I seriously hate them, they bought out practically every single gamestore on NA anyway, I used to be able to find a good deal, now I just have to put with GS's f*cking greed. Imo I'd be glady if they went out of business, maybe someone who actually cares could replace them.Big Smile

Yeah, Gamestop is freaking evil. The other day, I went in because I thought they had a special "Buy 2, get one free". But when I get there, they've taken down all the signs. I had just seen the advertisement on Sunday, so it was pretty fast. I asked anyways, and they said no. It's really only sorta worth it when they have specials like that, otherwise it's a pain in the neck.

They've also sold me a defective game once. When I was on vacation in California (used to live there), I went to the GameStop to look for a game for Christmas (this was when I didn't know about Goozex). Luckily, they had the "Buy 2, Get 1 free" deal that day, so I bought some. Kingdom Hearts was one of the games, which seemed to work fine. It took me some time to finish it because a few months later I got Goozex, and I had gotten stuck towards the beginning of the game. When I finally got to the end, the game f***ing freezesAngry. It's litterally the last cutscene, and the game freezes. Since I lived miles from the one I bought it from (nearly halfway across the US) I decided on a little plan. I would go buy the game at the local GameStop (which took me 2 weeks to finally find) and return the faulty one and tell them it froze on me. It was only right since the thing is the largest video game chain store, and they're so evilDevil. Did it, and was able to get Prince of Persia. Would have been better if I got my money back, but I was content with PoP. It worked so flawlessly, it makes me want to do it again, just to stick it in their noses (in case I get another game that will do that).

Being a retailer in another business, something about this kind of action, while poetic, bothers me.

I would only do that to a place that has ripped me off. I now go to a local game place that treats me very well. If I came into your store and you were friendly I would not ripp you off.

To be honest, in my business, I wouldn't hassle you for bringing something back two weeks later that was defective (exception:  if a person does this regularly, its time to terminate the business relationship:  they are ripping you off).  Then again, I'd rather take a loss if it's indeed the right thing to do.  People respect that and tend to return to do business again.  In the long run, it's better, more profitable business.

Still, I wouldn't personally feel right about going about it in that manner.  There's other ways of applying pressure to get the right thing done.

All I get from this is: "Waaaah! Waaaaah! The bad retail store is only interested in making money! Waaaah!"

Seriously, any and all retail stores have little strategies to get you to spend more than you planned/want, and have their share of great/terrible employees. If you don't like how much Gamestop offers you for your games, then don't trade them. You have every right to say "No thanks" after they tell you your total. If it bothers you that much, STFU and take your business to another store.

My complaint is that after 1 week and 1 day if a game from GameStop stops working they wont give you credit back.

I voted no, because Gamestop has very rarely sold me defective games and the few times I have had difficulties, they've generally had good customer service. I primarily buy from them online. Once, I bought a used game and it didn't work. So I called them, and they sent me another copy, accelerated shipping, no questions asked.  Another time, I ordered another used game (Deathrow for the Xbox), and they screwed up and sent me Dead to Rights by mistake. I emailed them, and they sent me a copy of Deathrow no questions asked, and I got Dead to Rights for free as a result. Not a huge deal as Dead to Rights was only a $4 game at the time and probably cheaper now so, nothing huge, but still it's a pretty good game for free.

I've almost stopped buying from them though, because I've gone to using Amazon, Ebay, or even Goozex instead (actually, when it comes to games that cost $5 or more, it's almost always a better deal to buy some points and trade credits and get it through Goozex instead, even though I think Gamestop's prices are pretty good too, and I usually still buy from Gamestop whenever I'm buying under $5 games because they usually still have the best deals for those).

It should be noted, I've tried to trade in my games at Gamestop like, twice in my life, and both times I thought it was a big ripoff. So, yeah I think they do rip you off on that front. But, I don't complain anymore because it was only a few times, a long time ago and I've just decided to steer clear of it since then. Not worth complaining about if you ask me. Especially since, if I wanted to trade my games in (which I don't anyway at the mo), I've already found a far better choice in Goozex. As far as buying games, I haven't really had any bad experiences with Gamestop.

It all boils down to the quality of store employees. A poorly managed store with lazy employees will no doubt offer low quality used games. A store with good management and employees who take ownership in the business will make sure to only sell workable games.

Also, used games have a 30 day warranty. Someone earlier said a week and a day, but the week only applies to getting a different game. You have 30 days to replace a broken game with the same title.
