I was wondering which 360 I should get for X-mas. I've had people tell me that the Arcade is good if you aren't going to go online (I would go online, but we can't highspeed internet where I live), and the person that told me that he has a bunch of games and still he has not ran out of space on his memory.Or should I go with one of the others. I really need help!
Personally, I would go for the Arcade. I got mine brand new off eBay with the live.com 25% off deal for $140 shipped. Since the new dashboard is coming out, Microsoft is giving out HDD's (what the arcade version is missing compared to the pro) and a 3 month live card for $30.
I just sold the memory (came with Arcade) and live cards on CAG for $30, so I broke even.
The guy at the store said simalar things. Thanks for the reply. I will also wait and see what others say, but just as before I'm leaning towards the Arcade.
I'd go for the Pro.
The large hard drive is nice to have. You won't be having to worry about what demos you download. The HDD they are selling is only a 20Gb REFURB. Good luck with that.
You will want a HDD with the new dashboard also. With it you can load games you play a lot on to the HDD. You won't be able to do many with the freebee HDD. Plus you get more games with the Holiday bundle with the Pro vs. arcade.
Tell her to get you a PS3. It has free online gaming, built in Blu Ray and it doens't have a red ring of death to worry about!
Waits for the fires to burn

I the red ring an issue anymore with the newer models?
I just bought an arcade, because I wanted the memory card (to bring my gamertag with me to friend's houses), the bundled arcade games (I love Pac-Man:CE) and the $30 hard drives offered from Microsoft. I got it when Amazon was selling it with Lego Batman. That's a lot of value for $230.00.
Was the PS3 fanboy referring to these fires?!?!?!?
If you're going for the Arcade or Pro (that Alpha is talking about), I'm pretty sure they all come with Falcon and above chips, which are supposedly "anti-red ring."
Alpha - Are HDD's prone to failure or something? When I got my refurb it had a few demos on it.. Nothing a quick format didn't fix. I'm not a big demo guy, so I thought the 20 GB suited me pretty well, still got 6 GB free that I probably won't use anytime soon. OP - you should also keep in mind that original Xbox games will not work without an HDD.
If you do end up going for the Pro version, Costco has a great deal on it right now:
But wait! There's more! If you buy a ps3 now, you'll have access to 3, count 'em, 3 good exclusive games!
I am disappointed in you, Ass Effect.
Yeah, but they're really good exclusives!

I hope not because I have one.
The hardrive is worth it. Even without online there are ways to get the content onto the 360, like content discs in magazines.
don't listen to alpha, the refurbished hdd is just as good as a new one because they are coming from MS not from GS or your local pawn shop. with the refurbed hdd you will have enough memory for a lot of saves and music since you won't be using xbox live to download demos and in game items. then again you probably wont need the hdd device because you wont be hooked up to live and the new update will be obtainable on your memory card or hdd if you ever do hook up live.
to get backwards compatability on your 360 you could go to someones house that has a 360 hooked up to live and remove their hdd and replace it with yours or add your memory card and put a original xbox game in the drive and play it then it will update your memory device so you could have bc. Also, you could download an update to play original xbox games from xbox.com and burn it to a cd and run it in your system and it will update your 360.
it would be a good precaution to buy the hdd and 3 months of live for $30 while the deal is still there if you ever do happen to get a way to get it hooked up in the future. lastly, what kind of tv are you hooking it up to, the size of the tv, the connections it has, and if it's an HDTV?
Yes HDD do have a tendancy to failing. I'm sorry I've been in the computer field a VERY long time and that is the #1 component to fail in a computer hands down. If it has been in for repair it will go back for repair. I don't care who it comes from. How many refurb Xbox's went back to Microsoft after they fixed them? TONS. So they are not infalable.
I love the space for the DLC. And they are getting bigger all the time. The 20 tracks I just got from Rock Band 2 what half a gig on top of the 1.5 from Rock Band 1 songs.

Sorry it took so long to reply.I Was at a local game store getting Devil May Cry 3. My TV is not HD. It is got a good size not exact though.
The PS3 isn't in the price range. If I got a PS3 I would only be able to get like one game for it.
