I don't have a real problem with Mac users who know how to use a computer. And I guess in the same aspect I don't have a real problem with PC users (me) who know how to use a computer.

I have a problem with this guy: "Mac is the best cause ummm..there's no virus's and (checks commercial) um it allows pictures to be seen! So that's why I paid 2000 dollars for my Mac cause the picture working is awesome! PC's are stupid you can't even play photoshop."

However, txa is a power user so I can't really say anything about that. I would never buy a MAC because I pretty much know how to do whatever I want with a PC and have 0 problems with them.

I also get annoyed at the soccer mom buying a 1500 dell cause she thinks she needs a quad core to cheat on her husband on match.com. I think the Graphics card swapping is pretty cool though in the MAC. Thats a good idea. Still those graphics cards aren't exactly gaming cards.

I guess my beef is A: The Glamour Computer (Mac's) B: Idiot end users. C: I'm in a bad mood today

I wish they could get these things to not run quite so hot, typing on a keyboard that is 100+ degrees is not much fun. This is supposed to be a fairly high end system, yet Apple continues to put sub-par hard drives into them. If they could address some of these issues and a few more minor ones, it would be a good system to have.

Mac's are kind of like AOL - they're great introductory machines/services if you're new to computers. They put you in a safe bubble, but once you're ready to experience the "real" world, it's time upgrade to a PC.

Best quote I've ever heard on the subject

My next laptop purchase will be a Mac.  My life has been considerably shortened by Vista.

TXA -- you made a comment about 17% market share for macs....that's not great.  BUT, if you consider market share for high end PCs only -- then their market share is a crazy 91%!!  So in other words, if people are going to spend $2000+ on a new computer they are most likely buying a Mac.  Think of what car you'd buy if you're dropping $75,000+ -- probably a nice German/Italian sports car.

Here's a great article on the real difference b/w Macs and PCs

On a different note -- stop the thread jacking here -- I'd like to hear more about why I need to buy a Mac.

Spoken like someone who hasn't done more than berate Macs for the last decade ...

And then when you realize that the PC hardware is largely inferior, the OS is hobbled by history, and you actually want to be a *real* power user (rather than a PC wannabe who couldn't even tweak his own memory settings anymore), you'll get a Mac wince you realize that instead of being stuck with the 'bottom feeder' OS, you can get the Mac OS (built on Unix), also run a full X-Windows subsystem, and also dual boot into wWindows for a better PC experience than just about any current laptop.

Unless you just want to play games ... then you get a mid-range PC. Big Smile

SMC Fan Control. Spin your fans up to 4000 or 5000 RPM's and the aluminum will start to burn from how cold it can get.

Although, if I had one gripe it would be that there's no matte screen option on the MBP any more. [:'(] Glossy is not my friend.

Anyone who is willing to invest that much money into a computer should take the time to figure out how to put one together from parts ordered from newegg etc. It's not that hard really, it's like putting together legos, with how idiot proofed it is these days. You can get a PC that will run every game on the market at maximum specs for around $1200 plus a decent monitor and sound system. And you can install mac os if you want to be like that.

Now, laptops are a different story, but buying a laptop for gaming is irresponsible.

My parrents bought a Mac in the 80's and I thought it was a neat computer. In college in the 90's my gaming interests started shifting away from the consoles and to computers. I still liked the Mac interface, but wanted the expansive library of games that the PC had to offer. Guess which side won me over?

Steve Jobs had numerous attempts to steal the gaming market from the PC side and refused. Everything had to be "apple approved". Game makers and other companies who didn't want to deal with apple, released their products on the "free" platform - the PC.

To this day, apple still controls everything and everything must be an "iSomething". The PC is free. MS just makes the OS. I can run more software, more games, more mods, more programs on a PC and I don't have to worry about Big iBrother watching over me and making me upgrade my iWhatever every 6 months.

And to those of you who think you can just install Windows on a Mac and get the same performance, I don't think so. Can you also install a Creative X-Fi in that Mac and get it working in both OS's? What about the latest Geforce card (and I'm talking about on release date and not months later when nVidia finally realeses Mac drivers)? And what about that terrible Mac mouse? How are you suppose to use that in L4D?

Sure, a Mac might look prettier when you're sending an email, listening to iTunes, or just surfing the web, but if you want to experience the real online world, then get out of your iBubble. Get a PC.Wink

Cool - Mac thread hijack by mindless lemmings!  How UNEXPECTED to see that here!

Unfortunately, this must be expected on forums. Everyone is convinced that each of their OS's are superior to the other. The big reason for this is the fact that Mac's and PC's, despite appearences, work VERY differently. Many PC users open a Mac, see the X's for windows are on the left instead of the right and say "Mac's are counter-intuitive and suck because they don't conform to my standards" I am using a PC and I love PC's, but all this hatred for the "other guy" is completely unneccessary. Personally, I don't like Mac's, they don't work well for me, but that doesn't mean that it is a worse OS than Windows.

Note: I'm not directing this at you txa, just at some other's ;)
