Just making sure this is as biased as I suspected

No fair!  I would add Hannah Montana or Nickelback if someone came in with a justification ...

And what I am thinking is this: 'tell others why they should listen to this album'.  You might assume that everyone knows why 'Album X' is classic or important or great (not always the same thing), but taking a few seconds to state it clearly for others is all the more fun.  Here is an example of something unexpected for me:

The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan / Bob Dylan / Folk / 1963 - He might sing like a baby seal being clubbed and offer no particular musical surprises to what was already a growing folk movement, but this record made something clear: Dylan is a master songwriter and storyteller who is able to weave strong political and social statements into songs with simple but pleasing melodies that function well as poetry, folk and pop music simultaneously.  There has been much 'socially aware' rock since 2001, but the overwhelming majority of it pales in comparison to what Dylan assembled 45 years ago.

Are users allowed to justify picks from others?

Absolutely - but I am also making myself justify: which is why I only have 3 so far Wink

As a music lover (I own thousands of CDs, not to mention my vast digital collection) I find this fun, hopefully others will join in too.

... that is why I started it!

BlueBird: Legendary Savoy Sessions / Charlie Parker / Jazz / 1948 - this is from the pre-album era, so timing is approximate with sessions between 1945 - 1948.  However, it showcases one of the greatest composers of improvised and short melody at the height of his powers along with a band of soon-to-be legends including Max Roach, Dizzy Gillespie, John Lewis, Bud Powell and Miles Davis.  It is impossible to overestimate the impact of the harmonic innovations of Charlie Parker on the development of the modern popular forms of music during the last 60 years.

Pink Floyd "Animals" is way up there for me.  It's perfect in it concept, presentation, delivery.  It even goes full circle, all in a mater of 5 songs.

I'd say my favourite album of all time would be Scream Bloody Gore by Death.  With some sweet guitar solos and low riffs it's one of my favourite albums for guitar playing, along with Iron Maiden's "Number of the Beast".

My choice: The Beatles - Rubber Soul

It basically marked a big change in the Beatles. It added the sitar, the new amazing lyrics from Lennon and much more. It was a turning point for the Beatles, basically.

EDIT: Rubber Soul / The Beatles / Rock / 1965

My favorite album is Blackbird by Alter Bridge. It is very well written and shows how great of songwriters are in the band. It also shows how much the former Creed members have progressed and grown. Plus, Myles is a waaaaaaaay better singer and lyricist than Scott Stapp. Their genre is Rock, and my favorite song is the title track.

Another would be Erotic Cakes by Guthrie Govan. He is one of the better guitarists around today, and writes some great songs. I guess he'd be considered Fusion. My favorite song on this is Fives.

Yet another would be Speed Metal Messiah by Joe Stump. Some may think he is incredibly derivative of Yngwie Malmsteen, but I think he has enough of his own style beyond the original influences. I much prefer him to Yngwie anyway. He is a great player, and manages to fit a lot of great melodies in with his speed. My favorite song is the title track.

Lateralus by Tool. Such a relaxing band for me. That may seem wierd, but I can usually just zone out and relax when listening to the fantastic rhythm this band has. My favorite song is either Disposition or The Grudge.

There are plenty more, but I think I'm going to leave it there for now.

Social Distortion  - White Light, White Heat, White Trash (1996)

One of their best albums makes it to my choice for one of the best albums; fantastic songs with thought provoking lyrics filled with raw emotion

Pizza guys are getting worse and worse looking. I guess all the good ones went into porn.
