RENEGADE was a great game , vastly underrated as it was westwoods black sheep , they had only dispersed strategy games under the c&c titles up to then and here was a third person shooter to confuse them all . it was never given a chance but was a fine game to play and more fun than a bucket of cats in multiplayer mode .
well worth a dabble if you see one around
I have to nominate Elite Beat Agents, since it's one of the best DS games in my opinion. It's based off the Japanese game Ouendan and consists of hilarious story cutscenes in which you play a bunch of special agents who try to help people solve mundane problems by dancing. The actual gameplay consists of tapping beats on-screen perfectly timed with the music, and the fast-paced gameplay could only work on DS. The songs in both the Japanese and English games are both tired old pop songs that suddenly take on new life. Where else would you listen to "Sk8r Boi" and actually enjoy it? Other songs are just plain good though. Ouendan 2 is even better IMO, it includes new game modes, a new Ouendan team, multiple replays and even more songs. The only problem is that you may not understand the cutscenes unless you read a FAQ.
I can't believe that these haven't been suggested yet (reviews to be selected)
Starcraft
Warcraft III
How about Grim Fandango?
---
An absolute classic. Grim Fandango features a wide and loveable cast of characters as well as an entertaining, and surprisingly mature story. I actually had to cheat a few times when I was playing this by looking up what to do on GameFAQS, alot of the puzzles are really that challenging. Every PC gamer and fan of classic adventure games owes it to himself to check this game out.
I personally would select almost all the LucasArts graphic adventures...but if I were forced to pick one, I'd say Grim Fandango or Day of the Tenticle. Or Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, or Monkey Island...or Loom....

I second. WC3 and the Starcraft series changed RTS forever. Classics
I have been playing Tetris for more than twenty years and have found the perfect Tetris. Tetris DS has barely left my DS since it came out. It's not because of the additional modes-those generally feel as tacked on as they do in any Tetris variation. It's not because of the "retro" 8-bit Nintendo character inclusion-I don't have any particular affinity for those. It's the online play. They nailed it here, and it creates a frenzy that makes you keep coming back for more.
Hard to choose between them all. Good to see Grim Fandango up there.
Cure of Monkey Island or LeChucks Revenge?
COMI I believe is the best of all the monkey Island games, and I firmly believe that it is in the top 10 games of all-time. It has everything and you can play it multiple times. I have since recorded myself beating it around 30 times, and it's still fun.
I just scanned the list to date and wanted to make a quick addition:
METAL GEAR SOLID (PSX)
Here's my own comment for Another World. It's a very old game, but it's technically available on Goozex.

Metal Gear Solid:

Metal Gear Solid is probably the only series outside of the Role Playing gerne that I actually responded to storywise. Which this can be entirely attributed to Hideo Kojima. Maybe this was due to the fact that this really was the first case that characters were all fully voiced or maybe it was simply the script and plot, but the game was a marvel storywise. This was also the first game where I actually badly wanted to defeat my villains. Outside of Sephiroth I would wager that Psycho Mantis is one of the coolest villains in all of gaming and the excellent mechanics that went into his boss fight were genius. The setting of the secluded winter backdrop paired with the great gameplay made this a highlight of the Playstation generation.
Super Mario Bros 3:

The Mario series is full of identical iterations that maximize the gameplay while only improving it slightly. Super Mario Bros. 3 was such a drastic leap from Super Mario Bros that it was extraordinary. The greatest thing about games like this is that they are relatively easy for a set amount of time.
Jet Grind Radio:

I guess this is pretty much my favorite rebel against authority game. It involves the unlawful acts of vandalism (which realistically are a drain on society) and uses it with an amazing set of J-Pop and Acid Jazz that is probably the best music of its generation. Jet Grind Radio is probably the pinnacle of the Dreamcast console. Splashed with an excellent cel shaded Cyber-Punk style, that still feels fresh even today, the characters felt wholly original and unique with seperate unlockable "graffiti tags". Even if you didn't like those tags then you could always customize your own. Gameplay-wise everything is pretty much an expansion on the Tony Hawk mechanics just in a much more improved and fluid way. The automatic grinding and wallriding are very accurate.
Final Fantasy Tactics:

While the story is complicated (due all in part to some translation errors) its still an easily understandable game that is essentially a jewel quest to save the world from an unknown threat. The gameplay system is phenomenal and the level designs compliment the style perfectly with the music, that is the some of the best in gaming. At no point while micro-managing my army did I ever feel that I was tired of doing so. The boss battles range but the most memorable fights in gaming for me are the rescue of Agrias, Gafgarion and Wiegraf. Likewise I think Delita Hyral is probably one of the single greatest supporting characters in gaming as his role in the story evolves from friendly peasant to manipulative King as each chapter progresses.

Beyond Good & Evil (Xbox, PS2, NGC) and Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem (NGC) are two of the finest examples of action adventure gaming ever created.

BG&E presented a fully realized world full of charm and whimsy in a story that managed to be, at turns, funny, moving, dark and harrowing. BG&E owes a large debt to Zelda's Ocarina for its gameplay, but implements said system so well you'll be thankful rather than resentful. And BG&E is one of the first sandbox-style games to get it right - there is always something to do in Hyllis, the planet where most of the action takes place. And while each mission is predominantly on rails, the variety of goals and the means in which you achieve them are varied and fun - no small thanks to Jade, the character you control, and her various partners. This game is a gem, and I'm anxiously awaiting the sequel!
ED:SR is a fascinating blend of H.P. Lovecraft type horror and adventure. Different from most survival horror titles, ED:SR specializes in the psychological rather than the visceral, and is all the more frightening because of it. Over the course of the game you will play several different characters, each in their own historical era, piecing together a mystery older than time, striving all the while to keep your character from coming unglued. Each era and location is distinct, as is each character in both their personalities and abilities, each has their own personal demons and fears to overcome. Oh, and did I mention, the game does its very best to drive the player insane, too! By pulling subtle and overt mind-tricks, the game keeps you on your toes as it spins its generation-spanning tale of dread. Definitely a game for the ages.
So I've been swamped with work and such...left my Xbox to relax for a little bit. I downloaded Left 4 Dead and thought it was ok...nothing great.
Fast forward to this past weekend when I finally have a chance to see it being played on co-op as it was intended. I was at Walter Reed Army hospital and I watched some of the guys there defend the rooftop waiting for the helicopter to come...awesomeness is how I would describe it.

don't think this game will ever get old for me, the heck with Halo this is my new Xbox Live game I can not describe in words how much satisfaction I get out of changing the direction of a zombie that is running full speed at me with and auto-shotgun. I have not encountered anything I dislike about this game and the pacing of each scenario is excellent. I am glad I bought a 360 now with this game added to my library.
