Bioshock - Near the begginning, in the doctor's office there is a small room that fills up with steam clouding the screen. it happens twice, the first time is when you enter the room, for ambiance. the second time is when you take some ammo off a desk. no matter where you move, your character is reset facing this desk. I spent a good 2 minutes reloading my ammo and searching for ammo standing in place. i turned around to see that a splicer has been waiting for me to turn around for about 2 minutes to attack.

It was one of the only times a game got a jump out of me.

:) Reminds me of the first time a ghost shows up in System Shock 2. Damn that scared the bejebus out of me.

naytk:

Metal Gear Solid 2 (my first MGS):  Towards the end of the game, everything starts getting very off the wall with the communications Raiden is receiving.  Also, the game itself started to fake the game over screen.  I had stayed up until very early the next morning to finish and it was extremely trippy to a sleepy mind.

I still love that game.

same here on all accounts. it was 4 am at that point. after the cutscenes, it was 5.

  • Shadow of the Colossus - Colossus #5 and #13
  • Herc's Adventures - Fighting the first boss (a giant boar) and watching it shoot a huge laserbeam out of it's mouth (I kid you not).
  • Devil May Cry 4 - Realising at the very end of the first boss fight that I could actually use the Devil Bringer to throw him. Badass!
  • Call of Duty 4 - The first real level in single player (the tanker).
  • Silent Hill - The locker room in the school (both on the first and the second time through. Mostly the second). I think everyone knows what I'm talking about.
  • Monster Hunter Freedom 2 - Killing my first elder dragon (Kushala Daora). Also killing my first Lao Shan Lung and my first Shen Gaoren.
  • Contra 4 - Prettymuch any boss battle, but the one that really stands out to me is the one at the end of either the first or second stage. I can't remember which one it is. It's the one where you start off fighting a bunch of badguys outside of a base (not the wall). Then things get interesting...
  • Bioshock - "Would you kindly..." Basically that whole segment leading up to, and including, the confrontation with Ryan. Personally, this is my biggest "Oh... my... GOD!!!" gaming moment ever. As in so far in my entire life.

Opening up The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past for SNES on Christmas morning...

...there were no pictures of me that Christmas after opening it as I was up in my room playing it for the next few months, all of which had several OMG moments.

I still get goosebumps when I think about that.

Probably the happiest day of my life...   (next to the day my firstborn child was born and perhaps the first time I experinced the process in which one would take to make offspring come into their life!)

why did you choose this over, say, Shock and Awe?

Basically because it set the stage for the rest of the game. Shock and Awe was amazing to be sure, but by that point in the game I was more used to having my mind blown. Wink

Halo 3: My buddy and I had geared up in CQB armor and decided to go romping around in an ATV together. I grab the sniper rifle because nobody else wanted it and I figured, why waste it? Immediately after we leave the base, I no scope (headshot without aiming down the scope) some poor red as he's running alone while we drive by him on a speeding ATV.
