In the city Im near, there are 4 gamestops within 5 miles of each other.  The first two are in a big community shopping area, one was an EB, one gamestop.  After the merger then are both now gamestops, and less than  half a mile from each other.  A total waste of space if you ask me.

The other two are inside a mall.  One was a babbages, one was an ebgames.  Both changed to gamestop, so now we have two gamestops in one small mall.

You worked in EB Games? Have you ever ripped a customer off? I've been to GameStop (who hasn't), recently I got ripped off, like two times now, getting charged a used game for the price of a new. You are right though, this merging made a bad turn, because first of all all of the EB Games in my area, their signs are now replaced with "GameStop" and their going out of business. Here is a lovely 3-day cycle I went through, there was an EB Games next to H-Dog in some shopping center in my area, one day it's EB Games, the other it's GameStop, the third I day, NONE, the store is locked and shut in cages.

I'm confused here.  You're saying you got ripped off twice by paying full price for a used game?  Do you mean an actual used game, or the employee rental deal like was brought up a couple months ago?  Cause if you bought a yellow labeled game thats listed as used and paid more, then I don't see how it's not your fault on that as well.

Yes, I'm surprised that they still have both store names in some places.  I've not seen an EBGames in a few years.

I understand why they kept the EB Games. A lot of people don't know the two merged, and a lot of people prefer EB Games (even though they are the same exact thing).

Out of the two, there is only EB Games in Canada (as far as I know). I try to avoid them as much as I can.

It doesn't matter which one I go to (let it be a new EB or an old one) it's always the same: Smells bad; it's hot (as in no air conditioning); little s*** employee thinks he knows it all and looks at you in a snob way if you ask for a game that HE doesn't like; over priced used games; if they run out of a game sells you the open box on display at the same price of new (which is a big no, no); tries to push on you a stupid extended warranty for you games...etc.

In all it is the last place I look if I need a game. Generally though I can find at a better price new games either at Best Buy and Futureshop and online such as Amazon.

The merger was definietly bad for consumers because of the loss of competition.  While I've never had any problems with any Gamestop/EB Games employees, I generally stay out of there because I hate how much much the used games cost compared to how much they will pay for them.  From a consumer standpoint it's a ripoff, just like college bookstores.

The new store popping up in Miami is Play-and-Trade.  It's pretty much the same as Gamestop except they have tvs set up all around the store that are hooked up to all three consoles so you can try out whatever game you're interested in buying first.

A friend of mine has a P&T franchise and so far they seem pretty good. They have old school games at his location, which is a plus.

Couldn't agree more.
