txa1265: The game was pushed as a RPG initially, whereas the second one was properly marketed as an action game. It screams for multiplayer but lacks *real* multiplayer. I am not saying it is bad, but it didn't live up to my expectations ... but I definitely encourage people to give it a try. And I put dozens of hours into both games.

That's fair enough. Dozens of hours is plenty to make an educated decision. Although many of the players that do enjoy the games have put hundreds upon hundreds of hours in the games I put 800+ into them combined (and I just got MHF2 back from goozex) I think RPG is a fair description, although not a traditional RPG I think it is a more realistic RPG, There is no story to speak of and no specific path to follow. You are the hunter, You can stay at each mission level one star two star and so on and get the best possible weapon and armor as you can in that group or move on to the next and gain better carves and equipment. As your review states you do not level up or power up, it is all in the equipment and weapons you earn by carving parts from the slain monsters.
I will agree 100% with you on the multiplayer. You can play multiplayer via Ad-Hoc mode (in the same room) but there is no infrastructure mode, except for the use of a service called X-link Kai. So yes the multiplayer is very lacking.
GamerDad?? What's that all about? I've never heard of it and that's what I would classify as.
No matter where you go, there you are!
I'm looking at it now but I can't find anywhere to log in or register as a new user. Maybe I'm blind but I can't find it. Does it go on invites or can anyone register for it?
xfaqtor: Hey guys, I just recently purchased a PSP and I have no idea what games on it are must haves. I got the God of War red PSP and can't put God of War down. I did buy Sonic Rivals but it's not really attention getting like GoW:CoO. I was wondering if I could get the name of a few good PSP games I can put on my Requests list. Any help would be great. Thanx, Xfaqtor

There is a registration thing on the lower right for the blog, and the forums are under 'community' also on the right.
GamerDad sold his review archive to WhatTheyPlay.com earlier this year, so there is no front page link to the review archive anymore. You can get to it here (http://www.gamerdad.com/archive.cfm?typeID=videogame&listID=reviews)

Tons of 'good' games to be had, but 'best' games?
Ones that I enjoy are Joanne d'Ark, Kindom of Paradise (it's not for everybody), Valkerie Profile: Lenneth, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops.
Pata-Pata-Pata-Pon. Pon-Pon-Pata-Pon.
I loved Patapon and put a lot of hours into it. I problem that I have with portables though, is I typically play them while lying in bed before I fall asleep, and more often than not I fall asleep with the game still on in front of me. And I'll wake up to find all my Patapons have been crushed, or Kratos has been slaughtered. I'm usually OK with turn-based RPG's though.

Absolutely! I don't actually fall asleep but come very close. It is pretty hilarious when you think about it - it is one thing to fall asleep while reading but while popping headshots in Medal of Honor Heroes?!?!

No kidding; there are some things you really shouldn't fall asleep doing. I happen to believe justifiable homicide is one of those things.
Some nights Mrs. kevlar51 will request I play a particular game because she has gotten so used to falling asleep to the music.

My wife usually *hates* hearing my PSP or DS (well, who can blame her, it is usally death screams and blasts filling the air), but she *loved* the 80's music radio station in GTA Vice City Stories!
(semi on topic) I am really happy with the PSP library. Which is a good thing since there has been an absolute dearth of decent new releases since Cris Core - which is now *5* months old! So I have been digging through my library and can find something to fit my mood without problem. My kids have been starting to use my systems (1 slim 1 phat) as well, and they love the choices - there is plenty of kid-friendly stuff in the collection as well!

Just out of curiousity, were there prior iterations of Mrs. kevlar51 (50, 49, 48, ... , 1), as well?
I have made the mistake of feeling bad for my wife not having any games she likes on the new PSP. Our daughter plays her Nintendo DS constantly so, I bought a used copy of Sims 2 on Friday at Game Stop for $14.00 since she loves Sims. I haven't touched my PSP since about 4:30 p.m. Friday afternoon only to plug it in when she runs the battery out. BIG MISTAKE!!!!
I havent tried much but the three games I hgave played and beat were great.
