I'm really looking forward to Dragon Quest IX and the Suikoden game.  There are others, but I'm more interested in playing ones that are already released as I just got my DS at the start of September.

I'm currently playing FFIV and though I'm not that far in, the story seems to be building quite well.

It is a really good game, but like the PSP FF I & II shovelware last year, serves no purpose.  Getting the GBA version is a much better value.

I'll agree with you on the PSP versions of FFI & FFII.  However, I wasn't aware FFIV was out for the GBA.  Is there a big difference between the DS and GBA versions?

Thanks.

Given the option I'd get the DS version of a game over the GBA version.  I'm a few more hours into four and it keeps pulling me in.  The story and voice acting are top notch.

The DS and GBA versions of FF4 have there advantages. GBA version has two extra bonus dungeons and gives you 5 "extra" playable characters near the end of the game (not going to elaborate too much for minor spoilers) , but it's a bit on the easy side. DS version gives you 3D graphics and an improved translation for a more complete experience of the original game , but its harder.

Dragon Quest IX is my most desired DS game.

Yes, I really gave a straight answer.

The DS also has the extra dungeons, and I didn't notice the difficulty being different, but I have two years between plays  ... my contention was more that the extra cool stuff in the DS version presents a 'value judgement decision' to buyers since the GBA is now ~$20 and the DS is $40.  But the GBA one is hard to get so that makes the choice moot.

And I recommend anyone here to grab the FF VI GBA while they can.  Wonderful version.

I don't know what I'm really looking forward to right now ... perhaps Gauntlet, maybe Call of Duty: World at War, Chrono Trigger, some other stuff ...

Dragon Quest IX

Yeah ... that one too.

I'm anxiously awaiting Chrono Trigger, though it will just add to the pile of RPGs that I need to play.  Just bought a DS finally.  Wish I would have done it a long time ago.

The numbering system confuses me.  Was that released as a different number (in Japan or NA)?  Do you know if they are remaking more FF's for the DS?

I'm in the same boat (got one a month ago).  I never realized how many solid RPG games there are on the DS.  With games I actually want to play coming to the DS and PSP, the time spent playing my 360 and PS3 will decrease significantly.

The game originally released in NA as FF2 was FF4 in Japan, and FF3 in NA was FF6 in Japan.

Since 7, they have been consisitent.  FF2, 3, and 5 were not released in their original form in NA, but have been since in re-releases

I'm glad I missed the originals, otherwise my head asplode!

As for new releases ... I think Squeenix is becoming addicted to their money-printing schemes, and since the DS versions sell well while the PSP ones don't ... I would guess more DS ports are in store!

I was completely disappointed in the PSP versions of FFI and FFII, so bring them to the DS.  They seem to put more effort into porting them (or updating them) to the DS Big Smile
