I've sent out two PC games that I've owned for over 10 years. Over that amount of time they do look a little battle-scared. When I was matched for a trade I simply sent a PM to the person and explained the conditition of the disk before sending it. If they are okay with the idea, then you are unlikely to get a negative feedback from them for the scratches. I think most of the backlash comes from when people feel like you're trying to take advantage of them, some might even overreact.

As long as it plays and doesn't look like some of Gamestop's used games I'd be okay with it then.

I have gotten nothing less than perfect mirrors from the other traders, and I need it, how else am I supposed to trim those pesky nose hairs?

While this may be true, it is not a guarantee that you will receive Mint condition discs, manuals, or cases.  Again, a great majority of traders here are responsible game players, but the occassion playable yet heavily used disc, manual, or case can be among your trades received.  Also remember that all game discs come from individual game players and not Goozex, as Goozex is merely a matchmaking service.

So I just received a game that contains a pretty bad scratch in the center of the disc. But I feel kinda of bad leaving negative feedback (it will be a first!) I want to test it out to see if it will work but I don't have the time to reach all the way to that point of the disc (since the scratch is somewhere in the center). The sender also lied about sending it and sent it 7 days after he claimed he already had sent it (he confirmed he sent it on Sep 31 yet the postage says sent Oct 7). Do you think that is deserving of a negative feedback?

Absolutely not. I don't think there is a direct correlation between where in the game you are and the postition of the scratch on the disc.

Test the game thoroughly before leaving any feedback.

In my experience, the opposite is true.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but with CD-Roms I believe the laser begins reading the information on the outer edge of the disc's circumference, and moves towards the center as it reads the information on the disc.  It would seem to me that there is more than just a direct correlation with your progress in a game, and the position of any scratch.

Other than that, I agree with your post entirely xtowelyx.

Of course there is. The data doesn't float around the surface of the disc, it's burned into a specific spot and if that spot is damaged the game will crash or suffer performance issues when it tries to load that section.

My copy of Legend of Dragoon disc 3 doesn't boot up if I try to directly play from that disc. However, if I boot it up through one of the other disc, try to load the save data, then change the disc when prompted, it works fine. No hitches at all.

My copy of Guitar Hero III can't play Miss Murder. Not even the preview when you hover over the song on the track list. If I try to play the song, or I hang around on it on the list too long, I get a DRE. Other than that the game runs flawlessly everywhere else on every other song.

Actually any disc starts from the inside track to the outside. The big problem is the scratch is a circular scratch as if it follows where the laser would go and it is somewhat on the middle outer portion of the cd which could mean it is could freeze up somewhere in the 66% of the gameplay. My main problem is I dont play games 24/7 I like taking my time and if I have to rush through this game just so I can feel like it is secure enough to play and I am getting a playable disc I wont enjoy the game as much as I could. Don't get me wrong I will put at least hours of game play in but whose to say at 20 hours gameplay the game wont play anymore. I feel like I am giving the seller the upper hand because of time but in the end I may be the one getting jipped.

If the game plays fine, then their is no problem, on how scratched it is.

Finally someone who realizes that GameStop rips you off on most used games.
