The 8 person minimum is one of the requirements for MVP events to count.  Another is the "Invite to Play" message.  This is covered in the MVP rules.  There was a COD event in July that had enough people, but since the invite to play message was not sent, the event was not considered official.  The intent is to ensure that everyone has a chance at knowing the MVP event is going on, even if they are not active in the forums.

 

Well that sucks..

I am leaving the country tommorow to study abroad for the year, so I will not be able to make any of the tornaments for the rest of the year. Thanks everyone for making this tornament thing a reality and try to keep it giong for as long as possible. hopefylly when i get back it will still be around. thanks again

 Hey guys I feel left out.... Havnt been to the last two tournies. I know it's short notice, but I sent out messages for a practice session tonite from 8pm to 9pm. Anyone that can make it, please do. There are no rules, and everyone fight who you want/join anyone's matches. Be sure to be on the vgfive chat for communication though.

Anyone can send out the invites, they just have to go out. Please do make sure that we don't have 5 people sending all of them since we don't want to spam the userbase.

Kirby, I'll be glad to take turns with you on sending those invites each week. Neji's turn was last week, so this week is my turn, don't worry I won't miss it. We usually send them out the night before the tourney, so send them out every thursday night.
