My favorite is the first RPG I ever played for an extended period, Earthbound for the SNES. Nostalgia probably plays a big role in that, although I played it a short time ago and it's still as fun and charming as I remember it.

My second favorite would also be my favorite Xbox game, Morrowind.

I know some may say these two dont really count, but I hate what most would call a traditional RPG.

But, Fable 2 and Oblivion

I'll have to agree with that.  I'm only about half way through and this is the best story (so far) that I have seen in a Tales game.

Vesperia is a really good game.  It definitely makes my list of games, although it doesn't quite reach the top of it.  I'm still really surprised Infinite Undiscovery got better reviews, at least the 2 I saw, as compared to Vesperia, IU was garbage.

That doesn't sound promising.  IU is one of the games in my Goozex backlog.

It's a slow slow starting game.  I couldn't care less about the characters or story until around the second disc.  That's just too long to 'hook' somebody. ( Last Remnant is much the same as that, btw, where around the time I put in the 2nd disc for the first time, I found myself intrigued with the prospects)  Combat was well done, but clunky in IU too.

Now, having said all that, you must take it in context.  In comparison to Vesperia, which I think competes only with Lost Odyssey for JRPG of the year, it's not good at all.  On it's own, if you're patient, and persistent to get past the beginning, it can be a rewarding storyline and and fun gaming experience.

Ultima VII: The Black Gate is my all time favorite. A good story told in a colorful world populated by unique characters that still had things to find even after playing it several times.

Woot! Another U7 fan!! That game was truly awesome, especially with the amount of things you could do in the game. My favorite: baking bread. And changing babies so that you could use the dirty diapers to scare people. Good times.

Right now I am really digging From the Abyss for the DS. Have almost 2 hours into the game and just started playing it today :D.

Excellent game ... have you tried the Ultima V 'Lazarus' remake in the Dungeon Siege engine?  They are working on Ultima 6 for the end of '09 ... really good stuff.
