What are some of your favorite manga?

I enjoy:

Lone Wolf and Cub - Long but brilliant. The art is stunning in a stripped-down no-frills way. The writing and story are beautiful and brutal.

Akira - Much better than the anime, primarily because the anime doesn't take its time the way the books do. Still plenty of action and complete and utter insanity, mind you.

Planetes - Closest thing to golden-age sci-fi in manga form. Also, really good characterization. I'm sad this ended.

Death Note - Struggling to find something to say for some reason.

Hikaru no Go - Just fun, especially if you like Go.

Please add descriptions, even if they're not long (and hopefully better than my Death Note one :)

Unfortunately I never got into manga but a couple buddies of mine have. I am curious to see what you guys talk about cause after this, if you can convince me, I will plop some $$ for some mangaaaaaaa.

Also curious to see what DickMcVengence can add to this thread as he is associated with Japanator

Edit: I meant not gotten into it, like gaming........I have always checked one out here and there, but nothing more than that.

I'm with NinjaJ on this one. Never read any, always wanted too. It's a bit overwhelming with the massive selection. That Akira manga sounds badass, I might start on that. Isn't their a website where you can rent manga from? That's probably a good cheap way to get your feet wet.

Here's that manga rental site I was talking about. It works like netflix. It's a little on the pricey side though.

I used to have over 200 volumes of manga, but I donated almost all of it to the library. Battle Vixens, Bomber Girl, what can I say other than I like boobs and action?

Only one I read now is Berserk. I picked up the Devil May Cry 3 manga which is alright, and the Disgaea manga which I only picked up because I like Disgaea so much.

I read verities: Death Note- A great series from start to finish, lots of twits and turning points that make you wanna say "Oh snap!" Uzumaki- A brilliently creative short-story, realistic and utterly disturbing content makes you ponder of what unthinkable things will happen to the town of Kozuro-Cho. Gyo- Pretty much the same as Uzumaki but not that distubing, and you can prablely finish both volumes in 1-4 hours buy it's still that entertaining! The next manga(s) i'm looking for is Gantz and more demented stories by Junji Ito(who made Uzumaki and Gyo)
